
WASHINGTON STATE – The U.S. Energy Information Administration has highlighted Washington’s leadership in hydroelectric power within the United States.
In 2024, Washington contributed 25 percent of the nation’s total hydroelectric generation. Hydroelectric power makes up approximately 85 percent of the state’s renewable energy, with wind power contributing just 12 percent.
Washington’s commitment to hydroelectric power places it among the top 25 percent of states with the lowest energy costs. An impressive 59 percent of Washington’s total electricity is derived from hydro power.
