Washington job market sees slight rise in unemployment to 4.5% in May

WASHINGTON – New data reveals that Washington state’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.5% last month, up from 4.4% in April, according to the state’s Employment Security Department.

The department reports that the state added 400 jobs in May, marking a small increase after three months of job losses. However, employment figures for May are lower compared to the same month last year. Nationwide, the unemployment rate remains steady at 4.2%.
