Washington Governor Bob Ferguson to address Medicaid cut proposals in Tri-Cities

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Washington Governor Bob Ferguson will join a number of healthcare industry professionals in the Tri-Cities on Thursday to oppose proposed federal cuts to Medicaid.

A tax and spending bill advocated for by President Donald Trump would cut Medicaid spending in an effort to offset tax breaks.

Earlier on Thursday, the Senate parliamentarian ruled that a provision in the bill to change how states can tax Medicaid providers violated that chamber’s rules.

The parliamentarian is in effect the Senate’s referee, responsible for gauging whether an action follows the legislative body’s rules. The Senate isn’t obligated to follow the parliamentarian’s rulings, but it usually does.
