Washington DOL updates renewal process; Choose email or postcard notifications

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) is changing how they send vehicle registration renewal notices.

Starting this month, residents will receive these notices via email or postcard instead of the traditional full-size letter, DOL said in a release.

If vehicles have no parking or toll violations or safety recalls, a postcard detailing the fee amount and vehicle information will be sent.

For those preferring digital communication, there’s an option to receive renewal notices by email instead of a postcard.

Official emails will be sent from noreply@notifications.dol.wa.gov, and residents are encouraged to add this address to their safe sender list.

For driver licenses and ID card renewals, notifications can arrive by letter, postcard or email. Online renewal is available every other cycle, but those over 70 must renew in person.

To sign up for email notification, update your email preferences go to My Account/License Express.
