OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Commerce announced in a press release they will fund legal representation or services to low-income immigrants that are at high risk of harm in the event of being deported from the United States.
In total, the department has $600,000 in grant money it will award through several contracts.
The press release stated that in order to be eligible, interested parties must meet the definition of “indigent” under RCW 10.101, which means:
Unable to pay anticipated costs of counselReceive specific public benefits (includes food stamps, Medicaid, among others) And an income below 125% of the federal U.S. poverty level.
