WASHINGTON STATE — Attorney General Nick Brown has responded to reports of alleged harassment and fraud claims targeting Somali-run daycares in Washington.
Local Somali Americans expressed outrage over fraud cases aimed at them prompted by cases against unrelated Somali nonprofits in Minnesota. They believe these cases may be fueling doxxing and harassment of Somali child care providers in Washington.
Brown stated that his office is coordinating with the State Department of Children Youth and Families to address the situation.
In a statement, Brown emphasized the importance of proper investigation methods.
“Showing up on someone’s porch, threatening, or harassing them isn’t an investigation. Neither is filming minors who may be in the home,” said Brown.
He advised those suspecting fraud to follow appropriate channels.
“If you think fraud is happening, there are appropriate measures to report and investigate. Go to DCYF’s website to learn more,” he said.
