OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington Attorney General Nick Brown has joined a coalition opposing President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Chicago.

Brown is part of a group of 24 attorneys general and governors filing a brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals.

According to the brief, the coalition argues that the president’s decision breaks the law.

It states that this action threatens one of America’s core principles: the military’s subordination to civilian authority within the United States.

President Trump and his administration have defended the deployment, stating it is necessary to combat rising crime in major U.S. cities.
