Wannacut Lake fire near Tonasket still active

A Level 1 advisory remains in effect for the area as the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) continues to monitor the fire that reached 100 acres late last night.

According to Thomas Kyle-Milward, DNR Communications Manager, the fire is still active, though it held within the perimeter overnight.

There have been no reports of structural damage.

Residents are advised to stay informed as the situation develops and to follow updates from local authorities.

TONASKET, Wash. – A fire has erupted in the Wannacut Lake area, prompting a Level 1 advisory for residents near East Wannacut Lane and Steep Mountain Road.

The wind-driven Wannacut Lake Fire was first reported to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) at 2:25 this afternoon. It has currently burned 75 acres, DNR said.

According to Thomas Kyle-Milward, Communications Manager with the DNR, there are no structures threatened at this time.

DNR is fighting the fire with assistance from Canadian air support on the eastern flank of the fire and the ground with multiple engines and crews from Okanogan County working on the western flank.

Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant.
