Valley woman charged after deadly crash near Chewelah kills two

The crash involved a blue 2016 Jeep Patriot and a black 2025 Harley-Davidson.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the Jeep driven by Ida Hildebrand, 52, of Valley, Washington, was traveling northbound and attempted to pass another vehicle.

Hildebrand swerved into the southbound lane, striking the motorcycle, WSP said.

The motorcycle, operated by Jerome F. Venters, 74, of Deer Park with Gloria J. Venters, 76, as a passenger, was hit during the crash.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hildebrand was injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

She is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.

WSP said drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – A “two fatality” collision involving a car and a motorcycle blocked U.S. 395 North on Thursday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The incident occurred three miles south of Chewelah, near Farm to Market Loop Road, around 3:31 p.m. Officials have not stated when the road will be cleared, or if a detour route has been established for drivers traveling on 395.

The incident is under investigation, and the cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
