US 95 reopens with pilot car after mudslide between Riggins and Lucile

U.S. 95 has reopened to two-lane traffic. A pilot car is currently guiding vehicles through the area to ensure safe passage.

Crews are closely monitoring the site and have cautioned that closures may resume if conditions change. Officials are urging drivers to travel safely and stay alert for any updates regarding the situation.

IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho – U.S. Highway 95 was closed down Friday, just north of Riggins and south of Lucile, as the result of a mudslide.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m., covering the roadway with mud and lumber.

Currently, the only detour routes available have been designated for small vehicles only, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office. No semi trucks, trailers, boats or motorhomes are permitted to travel on these alternate routes.

Cow Creek Road was set as the north side detour, while Race Creek Road was set as the south side detour. Deputies are stationed at the detour locations.

There is no information yet about what caused the mudslide or when the highway might reopen.
