COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho—Efforts to alleviate congestion on the US95 ramps are underway. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and Coeur d’Alene City Council are focusing on reducing traffic near the interchange, with potential impacts on local roads, businesses and homes.
Public comments on the project are expected to be collected in November. NonStop Local’s Gierra Cottingham was present at a recent meeting between the Transportation Department and the Coeur d’Alene City Council. The $120 million project is funded by state and federal resources, ensuring no additional taxes for residents.
This interchange is part of a larger corridor study on I-90, stretching from State Highway 41 to 15th Street. Erika Bowen, an engineering manager, shared that they have been working on this project since 2022.
Bowen stated, “We’re making substantial pedestrian improvements. We’re actually connecting that runs along I-90 with goes north and south,” said Bowen.
The project involves changing the current interchange at US95 to a point urban interchange, with construction anticipated to begin once designs are finalized. Public impact and feedback are crucial, as noted in the meeting.
“We have been making huge changes in the design since March,” Bowen said. “Public impact is definitely key.”
An open house meeting is scheduled for November 18 at the Best Western, where the public can voice their opinions or concerns about the plan. ITD emphasized the importance of community input in shaping the project.
