University of Idaho receives grant to boost fire science research

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho has received a $1 million grant aimed at advancing wildland fire science research. This funding, provided by the National Science Foundation, will support the training of nine additional doctoral-level researchers over the next three years.

The research will delve into various critical areas, including the physics of fire, effective firefighting techniques, and forest regeneration following fires and other natural hazards.

This initiative seeks to equip the next generation of scientists with the knowledge and skills necessary to address wildland fire challenges.

The university’s efforts are expected to contribute significantly to understanding and managing wildland fires, benefiting communities and ecosystems alike.
