The United Nations, established 80 years ago today, commemorates its founding with United Nations Day. The UN was created following the drafting of a charter aimed at preventing the failures of its predecessor, the League of Nations, to maintain international peace and security after World War II.
Currently, the UN faces a deadlock on pressing global issues, including Russia’s actions and Israel’s ongoing conflict with Gaza. Despite the challenges, the organization continues to strive toward its original mission of fostering international cooperation and peace.
