UNITED KINGDOM – The British government is considering a significant change to its democratic system by lowering the voting age from 18 to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to vote.
Prime Minister plans to implement this change, aligning the UK with Scotland and Wales, where younger voting is already permitted.
A government policy paper supports this proposal, stating it is “right and fair that 16 and 17 year olds should be able to vote since they work and pay taxes and serve in the military and contribute to society.”
This potential change reflects an effort to include younger citizens in the democratic process, acknowledging their contributions to society.
