SPOKANE, Wash. – The United States Attorney’s Office, along with several federal agencies, will announce a multi-million dollar settlement in Spokane with MultiCare Health Services. The settlement addresses allegations that MultiCare fraudulently billed federal and state health care programs.
The settlement comes after allegations that Dr. Jason Dreyer, a former Spokane neurosurgeon, performed medically unnecessary surgeries, endangering hundreds of patients. These procedures took place at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital and MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in Spokane between 2019 and 2021, according to the complaint by the Office of Inspector General.
In April 2023, Dreyer agreed to pay $1,174,849 to resolve allegations of performing unnecessary surgeries billed to federal health programs while he worked at Providence St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla from 2013 to 2018, according to U.S Attorney’s Office.
He was accused of endangering patients with unnecessary procedures. Despite concerns, Providence allowed him to resign without reporting him to authorities, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Washington, said in a release.
Dreyer was subsequently hired by MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in Spokane where the U.S Attorney’s Office said he continued to fraudulently bill federal and state health care programs.
A press conference will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in front of 920 W. Riverside Ave., Spokane, or inside the first-floor conference room if weather requires.
