Yakima airport has joined airports across the nation in refusing to play the video.
The airport said the screens are owned by a contracted ad service and only show static advertisements.
TRI-CITIES, Wash. – The Tri-Cities Airport is not showing the video message shared by Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, but the airport’s director gave a different rationale than other airports.
Tri-Cities Airport Director Buck Taft said that the Tri-Cities Airport was not showing the video because they are unable to display it.
The video features Noem, speaking directly to the viewer, blaming democrats in congress for the government shutdown.
“Our hope is that democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government,” Noem says in the video.
When NonStop Local asked Taft if the airport would play the video if they were capable of displaying it, Taft said he could not answer.
As of October 14, 2025, Taft said that the airport had not had any effects from the federal government shutdown.
Airports around the country refused to play the video from the Department of Homeland Security, citing airport policy or regulations prohibiting political messaging in their facilities.
In the state of Washington, both the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the Spokane International Airport have refused to play the video. Spokane International Airport cited .
