Tree safety awareness in Inland Northwest amid high winds

POST FALLS, Idaho – As winds pick up in the Inland Northwest, tree safety becomes a priority for residents. James Pass, owner of Top Notch Tree Solutions, shared insights on identifying potentially dangerous trees.

Pass explained that during windstorms, it’s crucial to observe the ground around trees. “During a windstorm look to see if the ground is flexing if it looks like the ground is moving it’s because the roots are starting to come up,” he said.

He also noted that the direction of a tree’s fall can often be predicted by the distribution of its branches. “If you’re looking at these trees and you have all the branches on one side of the tree say those branches are all closest to the house that’s most likely the way the tree is gonna fall,” Pass said.

For those concerned about tree safety on their property, Pass recommends a professional assessment. “We have an ISA certified arborist on staff we send out and he can go and take a look at your trees and tell you anything you need to know,” he said.

Pass emphasized the importance of proactive measures. “You don’t want to wait for mother nature to take these trees down,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to seek professional evaluations before winter conditions exacerbate potential hazards.
