SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Transit Authority and Transit App have reached a deal to provide Transit App’s premium subscription, Royale, to all riders in the Spokane Region.

Automatic access to the app’s premium content begins on November 4 and gives riders enhanced features to plan trips and track buses in real time.

“With full access to premium features, riders using Transit App will be able to plan, pay fare, and navigate throughout Spokane Transit’s regional bus network with confidence,” STA Chief Executive Officer Karl Otterstrom said.

Questions about where the bus is make up the highest quantity of calls received by the Spokane Transit Authority’s customer service center, said Carly Cortright, STA’s Chief Communications and Customer Service Officer.

Now, Transit App users can use their app to real-time GPS bus tracking, which was previously only available for those who paid for premium features.

Transit App’s full features also offer riders automatic detour detection, notifications with tracking and detour updates, the option to add favorite locations for convenient routing, personalized navigation, tap to pay and more customizable options.

The app is free to download and users in the Spokane region, which spans beyond the city itself, will automatically have access to the app’s full range of features.

Unlimited access to premium features is a part of a five-year contract STA signed with Transit App, which costs an average of $73,000 a year according to Cortright. The funds from the partnership were allocated from STA’s local budget.

“This partnership reinforces our continued investment in real-time information and modern digital tools, a key initiative within our strategic plan,” Otterstrom added. “By improving accessibility to reliable trip information, we’re making public transit a more attractive and convenient option for everyone.”

The Transit App is used by 333 cities and regions throughout the United States and 1000 cities throughout the world.

The Spokane Transit Authority provides information to apps like Transit App, Moovit App and Google Maps to enhance users’ commute experience.
