Traffic deaths in Washington drop for first time since 2019

WASHINGTON – Traffic deaths in Washington decreased in 2024, marking the first decline since 2019, according to a report from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The report revealed that 731 people died in traffic crashes last year, down from 809 in 2023, a year that saw a 33-year high in fatalities. Drugs or alcohol were involved in about half of these crashes, with nearly two-thirds resulting in deaths.

Motorcycle deaths also saw a decline, dropping from 142 in 2023 to 113 in 2024.
