LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – The much-anticipated Topgolf project in Liberty Lake has hit a pause nearly a year after its announcement. The high-tech entertainment venue was planned to be built just west of Trailhead Golf Course.
This delay stems from a corporate reorganization within Topgolf Callaway Brands, which announced plans last fall to split into two separate companies. One will focus on traditional golf equipment and the other on venue-based entertainment under the Topgolf brand.
Lisa Key, Community Development Director for Liberty Lake, explained the current status of the situation.
“So my understanding is that they have a purchase and sale agreement in place. There have been some delays because the company is going through some corporate reorganization, but my understanding is that they are moving forward with this,” Key said.
Despite these changes, Key stated that Topgolf has taken steps to advance the project. She mentioned that Topgolf extended their purchase and sale agreement during this restructuring.
“The original contract purchase and sale agreement was through June of this year and now it’s through June of next year,” Key said.
Locals have expressed concern about the lack of direct updates from Topgolf. However, Liberty Lake officials emphasized that it is the company’s responsibility to communicate with the public about private development projects.
City officials remain hopeful that the project will proceed. The timeline now extends at least into next summer.
