ATHOL, Idaho — Timberlake Fire Protection District celebrated a historic day with the debut of their new full-time firefighting crew and the introduction of Engine 62, a 2025 Pierce Engine, into service.
According to a post via Facebook, the district’s constituents approved a levy override two years ago to enhance services, leading to the hiring of five new full-time firefighters. These firefighters completed their academy training last week. Today marks the first time the district has four full-time firefighters on duty simultaneously.
Engine 62 replaces the 1991 E-One fire engine and features modern technology and improved safety for better service. With the new staffing model, the district can maintain a full-time engine crew even when the ambulance is in use, ensuring firefighters remain available for emergencies.
For several months, all full-time staff will be stationed at Station 1 in Athol, focusing on training. Eventually, a crew will be assigned to outlying stations to improve service and reduce response times.
The district expressed gratitude to their full-time and volunteer firefighters. “Their commitment and willingness to serve are a critical part of our organization,” the district said. Volunteers enhance the district’s capability and service level when working alongside career staff.
The community’s support has been pivotal in the district’s growth. “Your investment is directly improving emergency response, safety, and service for everyone we protect,” the district stated.
