It’s our last warm day before some big changes. Unsettled weather returns tonight, followed by a rainy setup for tomorrow.
Plan Your Tuesday
Highs Tuesday reach the middle 70s to low 80s in our region for a second straight afternoon before showers and thunderstorms arrive. An isolated storm is possible during the day over the Cascades, but most of the action won’t happen until dinnertime or later into the night. Expect these storms to bring gusty winds, small hail, and lightning in Southeast Washington, spreading north as the night goes on.
What We’re Tracking
Thunderstorm chances fade as the heart of this storm system arrives on Wednesday. The temperature drop from Tuesday to Wednesday will be extreme, with highs over 20 degrees cooler.
The rain on Wednesday will be heavy. Between 0.25 and 0.75 inches of rain is expected around Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Totals of up to 1.5 inches are possible around the Palouse. This may trigger small stream or urban flooding. Standing water is likely in the areas that get the heaviest rain. A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the Palouse region. Recent heavy rains mean the ground is already saturated here, which could help encourage flooding during this round of rain.
The rain will linger on Thursday along with the cooler temperatures. Conditions dry out again heading into the weekend.
