SPOKANE, Wash. — A timeless love story has found new life on the Spokane stage as “The Notebook” musical continues its run at the First Interstate Center for the Arts through Sunday.
The production, which opened Tuesday, transforms the beloved tale of Allie and Noah into a musical experience that has critics praising its emotional depth. The show follows the couple’s lifetime of love as they face forces that threaten to pull them apart.
Sharon Catherine Brown, who portrays older Allie in the production, describes the story as one that resonates deeply with audiences. The musical chronicles how Allie and Noah meet at a young age and develop a profound connection, only to face the ultimate test when Allie develops Alzheimer’s disease and can no longer recognize the love of her life.
“And when she was in the process, early in her diagnosis, she writes every detail of their love story down, in hopes that if he continues to read this to her, it will bring her back, bring her memory back, and bring her back to him,” Brown said.
The production stands out for its innovative approach to storytelling, particularly in how it handles shifts in time. Audiences witness all three generations of Allie and Noah sharing the stage together, showcasing the couple’s bond across decades.
Brown notes that many audience members are experiencing elements of this story in their own lives, making the stage production particularly emotional and, for some, healing.
The musical runs through March 22, with performances scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each evening. Saturday features an additional matinee performance at 2 p.m., and Sunday’s performance is at 1 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $51 to $127, and the show is recommended for audiences ages 10 and older. Tickets are available here.
