TEXAS – Texas Republicans have unveiled plans for a new U.S. House of Representatives district map, aiming to create a more favorable landscape for the GOP before the 2026 election. The proposed map could deliver President Donald Trump a crucial advantage.
The current slim majority held by House Republicans heightens the significance of this move. The new map is expected to create five Republican-leaning seats, which could help the party maintain its majority in the House and advance Trump’s legislative agenda through the Senate.
The proposal is set to be discussed in a special 30-day session in Texas, a state where the legislature is predominantly Republican. Governor Greg Abbott would call this special session.
The redistricting efforts in Texas follow similar actions in other states, such as Montana, which recently added a second congressional seat for the first time in nearly 20 years.
