
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A 15-year-old driver was charged with vehicular assault after crashing an SUV into a tree near N. Bowdish Road and E. Mission Avenue in Spokane Valley, police said in a release.
Spokane Valley Police said they responded to the scene on July 19 around 1:15 a.m. after multiple reports of a crash. Witnesses noted three individuals fleeing the scene.
Deputies located two male juveniles and one female juvenile nearby. One male attempted to flee but was arrested after a short chase.
Investigators said the 15-year-old male was driving when it veered off the road and hit a tree. He and another male passenger showed signs of impairment, police said.
All three were taken to the hospital, where the male passengers were medically cleared.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center. Charges include vehicular assault, hit and run-injury, obstructing law enforcement and driving without a license.
The male passenger, also under the influence, was charged with minor in possession of alcohol. The female passenger, who sustained serious injuries, was released to a parent.
