SPOKANE, Wash. – Deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a tense situation on September 15 involving a man threatening his neighbor with a shotgun, SCSO said in a release.

Investigators said Jeremy S. Patterson, 46, threatened to kill his neighbor, leading to a more than four-hour standoff in the 11500 block of N. Kathy Drive.

Deputies set up a perimeter and obtained a search warrant as they said Patterson refused to cooperate.

The SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators arrived to assist. Despite multiple attempts to coax Patterson into surrendering, he remained uncooperative, SCSO said.

SWAT members, in an armored vehicle, breached a door. Deputies said they observed Patterson pointing a loaded AK-47 at them.

Deputies deployed chemical irritants into the home. After continued negotiations, Patterson, who appeared intoxicated, finally surrendered and was arrested, SCSO said.

Investigators said they seized 14 firearms, including the loaded AK-47 and shotgun, from Patterson’s home.

He was booked into Spokane County Jail on multiple charges, including Harassment-Threats to Kill and nine counts of Assault 2nd Degree.
