Suspicious vehicle leads to man’s arrest near Colfax

COLFAX, Wash. — The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle early on January 23, 2026, leading to the arrest of a man from Auburn.

According to WCSO, deputies arrived at a residence off State Route 26 at approximately 6:30 a.m. after the property owner reported an unknown vehicle parked behind their shop with the engine running.

While investigating, deputies saw an individual inside the property owner’s motorhome attempting to start and drive it away. The deputies instructed the person to exit the motorhome, and the individual complied.

The man, identified as 38-year-old Ahmed Ahmed, was taken into custody without incident. The vehicle found running behind the shop was later discovered to have been stolen from Seattle.

Ahmed was booked into the Whitman County Jail with the following charges:
