SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A Spokane Valley Deputy arrested a man with active warrants after a brief foot chase on May 20 in a known high-crime area, according to a release from Spokane Valley Police Department.

The incident kicked off around 4:00 p.m. when the deputy spotted a Buick parked in the 7200 block of E. Trent Avenue. The car belonged to 47-year-old Brian E. Hohman, who had two active warrants and a no contact order against him. The deputy confirmed it was Hohman before moving in.

When the deputy approached, Hohman got out and ignored commands to stay put. Instead, he took off running through a motel complex. The deputy followed, warning him he might use a Taser if Hohman didn’t stop. Eventually, Hohman gave up and was taken into custody.

During the investigation, it turned out Hohman had violated the no contact order by being near the protected person. He was found at a motel where the protected person was staying, which was against the rules.

While being taken to jail, Hohman claimed he had taken a large amount of fentanyl, leading to a hospital visit. At the hospital, he became difficult, claiming to have swallowed more pills. Medical staff treated him, and he was later cleared for booking.

Hohman was booked into Spokane County Jail around 8:50 p.m. on charges of violating a no contact order, obstructing law enforcement, and his outstanding warrants, including assault and malicious mischief.
