SPOKANE, Wash. – A suspect with a history of felony and misdemeanor charges was arrested by Spokane County and Spokane Valley deputies after a bike chase on July 15.

Deputies initially encountered John R. Cravens, 46, during a traffic stop on July 14. Cravens, who reportedly provided a false identity, was issued a criminal citation for possession of a controlled substance. However, deputies suspected he was involved in additional crimes.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) stated that investigators later confirmed Cravens’ true identity. They discovered he was a convicted felon with previous arrests for property crimes and theft in Washington and Idaho. Probable cause was established to arrest him for new charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle and identity theft.

On July 15, deputies spotted Cravens on North Argonne Road near Interstate 90. When they attempted to stop him, Cravens fled on a bicycle. He eventually crashed and was taken into custody.

After his arrest, detectives from the Spokane County Investigative Unit linked Cravens to garage burglaries, vehicle prowlings and other similar crimes, leading to additional charges.

As he remains in custody at the Spokane County Jail, Cravens is facing charges of burglary, attempted burglary, theft, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, identity theft, vehicle prowling, physical control while impaired, obstructing law enforcement and assault with a deadly weapon.

Cravens is also being held as a fugitive from justice due to an outstanding felony warrant in Idaho, the SCSO reported.
