
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement in Spokane Valley on Sunday after reportedly fleeing from police, firing at them from his car and killing a person in Idaho during a violent crime spree.
According to Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels and Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris, the incident began around 8:30 a.m. Sunday when the suspect carjacked a father and daughter on East Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley near the Whistle Stop Coffee Shop before fleeing east toward the Idaho state line.
Deputies said the suspect intentionally struck a motorcyclist who was performing donuts in the State Line Village area. He then attempted to carjack multiple other vehicles, successfully taking control of one. As a bystander tried to help a carjacking victim, the suspect allegedly pulled out an AR-15-style rifle and fatally shot the man who was attempting to render aid.
The suspect then fled back westbound on I-90 toward Spokane Valley. Deputies said he began firing at pursuing Washington State Patrol troopers and Spokane County deputies during the chase. Law enforcement deployed spike strips, successfully disabling the suspect’s car.
The pursuit ended at the intersection of , where the suspect reportedly exited the vehicle with a firearm. Deputies said officers opened fire, killing the suspect at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available, according to law enforcement.
