Suspect arrested for arson following Centennial Trail brush fires in Spokane Valley

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A suspect was arrested and charged with multiple counts of arson following in Millwood on Saturday, August 2.

Crews from Spokane Valley Fire Department, Spokane Fire Department, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (WaDNR) and Spokane County Fire District 13 responded early on Saturday morning to find between 11 and 16 small spot fires burning near structures in the area.

Fire crews were able to stop forward progress from the initial fires by 8 a.m. that morning, however, by 11:55 a.m., a second fire was reported on East Coyote Rock Drive. Additional resources were requested, and the fire was contained just after 1 p.m.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office reported that witness accounts led investigators to a woman suspected of starting the fires in both locations. Deputies located and arrested her on multiple arson charges.

The investigation by the SCSO remains ongoing.
