Storm brings fresh powder to Inland Northwest ski areas

SPOKANE, Wash. — A late-season winter storm brought fresh powder to ski areas across the Inland Northwest over the past 48 hours, improving conditions for skiers and snowboarders heading into the weekend.

At Schweitzer Mountain Resort, the storm dropped about 14 inches of new snow in the past two days. The fresh snowfall has refreshed runs across the mountain and added to the resort’s mid-March snowpack.

Farther west in the Cascades, Stevens Pass saw the biggest totals from the system. The resort reported around 32 inches of snow in the last 48 hours, creating deep powder conditions and significantly boosting the mountain’s base depth.

Closer to Spokane, Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park picked up about 8 inches of fresh snow during the same period. While lighter than totals in the Cascades, the snowfall helped improve coverage and grooming conditions at the local ski area.

Forecasters say additional mountain snow is possible through the weekend as colder air lingers across the region, which could bring several more inches to higher elevations in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
