BOISE, Idaho – In a powerful courtroom moment, Steve Goncalves addressed Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of murdering his daughter, at today’s sentencing.
During the hearing, Goncalves approached the podium, adjusting it to face Kohberger directly.
He declared, “Today we are here to finish what you started.” Goncalves expressed that Kohberger had underestimated the resolve of the Goncalves family, the State of Idaho, and the local police, emphasizing that Kohberger had chosen the wrong community to target.
Goncalves stated that while Kohberger attempted to fracture the community, he instead united them.
“Everyone was united after the murders,” he said, noting the collective disdain for Kohberger’s actions. He added, “In this moment, we will forget you. You’re a joke. Complete joke. The world’s watching because of the kids, not because of you. Nobody cares about you.”
Goncalves mentioned that his family had stopped referring to Kohberger by name, opting to call him “BK” instead.
