SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Spokane Valley Police (SVP) ended an hours-long standoff with an armed suspect in crisis on January 5, 2026.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex on E. 3rd Avenue, east of University Road, SVP said in a release.
Deputies said they initially responded to a welfare check for the 57-year-old man, but later discovered that he had pointed a gun at someone in the complex, leading to a tense situation.
After several attempts to contact the man by phone, deputies established a perimeter and, with probable cause for arrest, called in SWAT, Crisis Negotiators and additional resources, SVP said. They also sought a search warrant for the home.
At about 7:10 p.m., the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. A search of his apartment led to the recovery of 12 firearms, two air rifles, several holsters and a large amount of ammunition, said SVP.
The suspect is charged with felony Assault 2nd Degree and a misdemeanor for Displaying Weapons Apparently Capable of Producing Bodily Harm.
