SpokAnimal resumes dog adoptions after wave of respiratory illness

SPOKANE, Wash. – SpokAnimal has resumed dog adoptions, limiting them to five appointments per day, after a wave of unknown respiratory viruses swept through its dog population and forced the shelter to temporarily close.

SpokAnimal said in a January 14 update that all of the dogs had begun to improve in health. The shelter was closed on December 27.

Dogs available for adoption starting Monday were not the ones who had gotten sick, but SpokAnimal said in a social media update that the dogs that did contract the virus were now doing “extremely well.”

SpokAnimal’s closure coincided with SCRAPS, which saw an outbreak of Parvovirus in its adult dog population.
