Spokane’s Skyway Cafe reopening date delayed to mid-summer 2026

SPOKANE, Wash. – Skyway Cafe at Felts Field Airport has delayed its reopening until later this summer. The iconic restaurant was badly damaged in a fire in January 2025 and has been closed ever since.

Skyway Cafe Owner Sandra Melter told NonStop Local that the rebuilding process has been slow, but steady. Melter said they’re facing challenges specifically related to bringing the 100-year-old building back up to code.

The fire started in a grease vent and was mostly contained to the kitchen area, but the interior dining space was ruined by smoke damage. Damages were estimated at around $400,000.

While the fire was mostly contained to the kitchen area, smoke damage ruined the interior dining area as well.

The restaurant was expected to reopen in January 2026, then April. Now, Melter says they’re aiming for a reopening date sometime in late June or July.
