SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane’s downtown zipline project is one step closer to becoming a reality. Project directors are ready to move forward by presenting an ordinance and permit to the Spokane City Council next month, which would allow them to start construction on the 1,500-foot zipline.
“The decision in June actually gives them the approval to build the zipline,” Director of Riverfront Park Jon Moog said.
The zipline will stretch from A Place of Truths Plaza to the east side of Red Band Park, offering a thrilling ride past Spokane Falls and under the Monroe Bridge.
This new attraction aims to draw both locals and tourists, boosting economic activity in Spokane. “Bringing those new economic dollars into the city is really important, especially for our local businesses and retail here in the city,” Moog said.
Construction could begin as early as July, pending all necessary permits, including those from the Department of Ecology.
“Best case scenario, I would think the building could happen as long as they have all the permits and air rights in place,” Moog added.
The anticipated completion is tentatively set for October.
“We’re happy to see that it’s trending in a positive direction in October,” Moog said.
Last week, a conditional use permit was granted, which allows project developers to take the next steps to making the downtown zipline a reality.
