SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman was sentenced to nearly three years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree arson for setting her ex-wife’s home on fire, according to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutors said the fire occurred in November 2024 and resulted in the death of the ex-wife’s dog. Meadow Raine-Jones broke into the home, set fire to a bed where the dog was crated and fled. A neighbor alerted authorities, but firefighters were unable to save the animal.
In addition to first-degree arson, Raine-Jones pleaded guilty to one count of stalking with a domestic violence designation, one count of stalking and one count of second-degree animal cruelty with a domestic violence designation.
On Wednesday, Judge Marla Polin sentenced her to 29 months for stalking with domestic violence, 20 months for stalking and 364 days for animal cruelty. The sentences will run concurrently.
Court records show that after their separation in 2024, Raine-Jones harassed her ex-wife and her ex-wife’s new partner by repeatedly driving past the home and contacting them through text messages and social media.
During sentencing, the victim described the loss of her home, her sense of safety and her dog. Judge Rachelle Anderson emphasized the seriousness of animal abuse cases and imposed a lifetime no-contact order protecting both victims.
