Spokane woman faces charges after hit-and-run leaves two injured

Cautia McArthur, 19, was booked into Spokane County Jail for two counts of vehicular assault and one count of hit and run with injury, all felonies.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, June 8 around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Maxwell Ave. and Washington St. Multiple 911 calls reported a serious injury collision involving a person.

Witnesses said the vehicle involved, described as an older minivan, fled the scene after causing two crashes.

The first crash was minor, but McArthur allegedly hit an adult male while trying to leave.

Witnesses stated he was attempting to stop her from fleeing and stepped in front of the car. He was then dragged several blocks and is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit processed the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Minutes later reports of another crash at Monroe St. and Alice Ave. came in.

McArthur’s vehicle reportedly ran a stop sign and collided with a southbound vehicle on Monroe. Video from a local business showed McArthur’s vehicle speeding before the crash.

The impact sent both vehicles into seven parked, unoccupied cars nearby. The adult female victim in the second crash sustained serious injuries. McArthur was treated for her injuries before being booked into jail.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman accused of dragging a 17-year-old male in a hit and run case made her first court appearance today.

Court documents say Cautia McArthur, 19, crashed into the victim while he was walking on Washington St. north of downtown Spokane June 8. Witnesses captured video footage of the victim clinging to the hood of the van, police said.

Investigators said the teen ended up pinned underneath the van and was dragged against the roadway for a significant distance before being transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center and later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

McArthur admitted to consuming alcohol and cannabis while her breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .117, according to police in court documents.

McArthur appeared in court to hear the charges against her. She’s scheduled to be arraigned June 25 at 9:30 a.m.

The victim is reportedly in critical condition.
