SPOKANE, Wash. – Emily Peterson, a local bookstore owner, is on a mission to keep Spokane’s little free libraries filled with books.
She dedicates her time to making sure these community resources are stocked, benefiting readers of all ages.
Peterson, who owns Page 42, receives about 12,000 books a month.
“People give us huge amounts of books,” Peterson said. Her passion for books drives her to redistribute them through the city’s little free libraries.
Armed with an app that maps out these libraries, Peterson plans her routes efficiently.
“This enables us to directly deliver books to the neighborhood where people are reading them,” Peterson said.
Her goal is to ensure that middle schoolers and others have access to books during summer, weekends, and after school.
Peterson’s efforts include a diverse selection of books, from “Spy School” to “SpongeBob,” ensuring a variety of genres are available.
“It’s really important to me that that opportunity is available to everybody all the time,” Peterson said.
Through her work, Peterson is fostering a love for reading in Spokane, one book at a time. Her dedication ensures that these little libraries, whether shaped like houses or books, remain a valuable resource for the community.
