Spokane Valley woman arrested for DUI following multi-vehicle crash

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A 32-year-old woman was arrested for DUI after crashing her SUV into two parked vehicles Monday night while allegedly impaired by over-the-counter cold medication, according to the Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office.

Sydney N. Mix was booked into Spokane County Jail following the 9:15 p.m. crash near the intersection of E. Guthrie Drive and E 21st Avenue. Her Chevrolet Tahoe hit a parked Dodge truck so hard it pushed it into a parked Subaru, damaging all three vehicles, deputies said.

Mix told crash victims she had fallen asleep while driving after taking cold medicine, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies contacted her, she appeared confused and said she had taken large amounts of over-the-counter cold medicine. “When asked which one, she said ‘All of them,'” according to the incident report.

Deputies noted Mix had delayed responses, slurred speech, and refused field sobriety tests. During her arrest, they found a prescription bottle with a warning: “May cause drowsiness. Use care when operating a vehicle, vessel, or machine.”

Mix has two previous DUI convictions from 2018 and 2022, according to a criminal history check. Deputies obtained a search warrant for a blood sample.
