SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A Spokane Valley man’s life was saved by quick-acting firefighters after he experienced cardiac arrest on August 18. Kevin Schneider was at his home on his way to get groceries when he went into cardiac arrest.

Schneider was able to use his smartwatch to call 911 as a last-ditch effort. The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded within four minutes.

Firefighters performed CPR and transported Schneider to the hospital, where he recovered. Two months after the incident, Schneider and his daughter visited Fire Station 10 last Friday to thank the firefighters.

“I’m definitely on the better side of the men today and very thankful for the services these guys provide,” Schneider said. “And everybody should be thankful for what they do.”

Firefighter and paramedic Parslow, who was part of the rescue, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet Schneider. “I’ve been a part of multiple saves where someone goes on to a positive outcome,” he said. “But I’ve never gotten to meet someone who I was a part of who I was there.”

Parslow emphasized the critical role of bystander CPR, saying, “The people who perform CPR prior to EMS showing up are the heroes of that moment.”

The Spokane Valley Fire Department shared photos of the incident and their response, captured on a doorbell camera, to highlight the importance of quick action in emergencies.
