SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A house fire near the intersection of Trent and Lily on Saturday, June 21, caused an estimated $37,000 in damage, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD).

The Spokane Regional Emergency Communications (SREC) dispatched units from SVFD, Spokane Fire Department (SFD), and Spokane County Fire District 9 (SCFD9) just after 1:00 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing black smoke coming from several windows.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and found smoke emanating from the eaves of a small single-story home. The call was then upgraded to a working fire, which brought in additional personnel and resources.

They were able to quickly knock down the fire, while incoming crews conducted primary and secondary searches to ensure no one was inside the home.

The fire was contained to a bedroom, but smoke damage spread throughout the house.

One person was transported to a local hospital for a medical issue unrelated to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. SVFD reminded residents to regularly check their smoke alarms and dispose of smoking materials safely.
