SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Spokane Valley Investigative Unit (SVIU) is investigating an act of vandalism that caused $12,500 worth of damages to Greenacres Park.

Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a vandalism report at the park yesterday morning, which included damage to a recently resurfaced basketball court and to a newly planted tree.

They called this act “senseless” and said that not only did it do damage to the public park, but it delayed renovation, inconveniencing park goers and children who were looking forward to using the new facilities.

The park was last reported as undamaged on July 4 at 9 a.m. By July 6 at 8 a.m., a contractor employee arrived to activate the sprinklers when he saw some of the damage.

SVIU believes that someone used construction equipment to vandalize the park between these two times. The total cost for the damages is estimated at $12,500.

SVIU Detectives asked for anyone who might have information that can help them identify the suspect or suspects to call SVIU Detective J. Petrini at 509-477-3233.
