Spokane Valley crash leads to arrest of armed suspect after fight with witnesses

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Early on New Year’s Day, deputies responded to a car crash near N. Houk Road and E. Mansfield Avenue.

The suspect, 38-year-old Adam L. Powe, was reportedly involved in a fight with witnesses after the crash.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies detained Powe, who was suspected of driving while impaired with his young son in the car.

Witnesses confronted Powe as he tried to leave the scene, leading to a physical fight.

Powe allegedly brandished a knife and threatened the witnesses who managed to disarm him.

Both Powe and his son, who suffered a substantial laceration, were taken to the hospital for medical care. The witnesses were not injured.

Deputies charged Powe with several offenses, including Vehicular Assault, Felony Harassment, DUI, Reckless Endangerment and Assault 4th Degree. After receiving medical clearance, Powe was booked into Spokane County Jail.
