SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A brush fire near the Pine Valley Ranch complex on July 15 led to evacuations

Crews from Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), Spokane County Fire District 8 (SCFD8) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) responded to the blaze just after 6:00 p.m., following reports of fire and smoke near 32nd and Highway 27.

The fire, covering approximately half an acre, moved quickly due to light ground fuels and timber, with winds pushing it toward nearby apartments, SVFD said in a release.

By 6:20 p.m., the closest apartment building was evacuated, though it was not in immediate danger, SVFD added.

Crews contained the fire within the hour, allowing residents to return home. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department issued a reminder that outdoor recreational fires and open burning are restricted as of June 30th.
