SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane city officials are addressing concerns after a miscommunication during the Fourth of July fireworks show in Riverfront Park. Many residents reported not receiving a reverse 911 call following a false shooting report that delayed the event.
During the incident, a loudspeaker announcement urged attendees to take cover, causing hundreds to run. Once officers confirmed there was no danger, a reverse 911 text was sent to the area.
The city stated that those who received the alerts were registered with Alert Spokane. This program sends public alert and warning messages throughout the greater Spokane area.
Spokane has been encouraging residents to join the system, which has been operational for nearly a decade. To register for these notifications, visit SCEM.org and click on the “Alert Spokane” picture at the top of the page.
Residents are reminded that registration with Alert Spokane is crucial for staying informed during emergencies.
