Spokane seeks transparency in SCRAPS leadership selection

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane is being asked to play a role in selecting the next Executive Director for the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS). This initiative aims to enhance transparency and enforce the shelter’s no-kill policies.

The move comes after the departure of former Executive Director Jesse Ferrari and allegations of unnecessary euthanasia at the shelter. The community is pushing for stricter adherence to no-kill policies to ensure the humane treatment of animals.

Spokane City Councilman Michael Cathcart emphasized the importance of selecting the right leadership for the shelter. “The right leadership is the only way to ensure the right treatment of pets,” Cathcart said.

The involvement of the city in the selection process reflects a commitment to addressing community concerns and promoting accountability within SCRAPS. This step aims to foster trust and ensure that the shelter operates in line with its mission to protect and care for animals.
