The Spokane Police Department said the situation is resolved and there are no safety concerns. Schools in the area are no longer on secure and teach.
Schools were told to go into lockdown around after police responded to an incident at Empire Avenue and Cook Street. Police were dispatched to the scene around 8:20 a.m., were they were told that someone had presented a gun during an argument.
One suspect was identified and police are searching for them as they investigate the incident, said the department.
No injuries were reported and no one is in custody yet, according to the department.
The following message was sent from Spokane Public Schools to parents:
“Dear Families and Staff, Schools are now out of Secure and Teach. Out of an abundance of caution, we will maintain a secure, single point of entry at all schools and limit outdoor time. Thank you for your patience while we navigated through Secure & Teach. Thank you. Spokane Public Schools.”
SPOKANE, Wash. – Several schools near Empire Avenue and Cook Street entered secure and teach for police activity in the area.
Schools that entered secure and teach include Shaw Middle School, Newtech Skill Center, Bemiss Elementary School and Regal School, according to Spokane Public Schools.
