SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Public Schools have been busy over the summer, making significant upgrades across the district to welcome students back.
Several schools in the area received new playgrounds, including Stevens, Jefferson, Wilson, and Bryant. These playgrounds now feature soft, all-weather surfaces to ensure student safety and easier maintenance. Shadle Park and Rogers schools have new track surfaces, enhancing sports facilities for students.
In addition to playground and track improvements, some schools have installed new play structures, hardwood courts, HVAC systems, roofing, and fresh paint jobs. Spokane Public Schools planned these construction projects during the summer to minimize disruption and ensure students are set up for success.
Spokane Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating, “You know, we expect them to come into these schools and work hard. We expect for them to care for these facilities and respect these facilities. And so it’s not just about the adults giving to kids. It’s also about setting that expectation and showing kids that we are all in this together.”
North Central and Lewis & Clark High Schools now boast new gym floors, with North Central featuring a wolf logo on its court for the first time since the school’s rebrand in 2021. Additionally, many schools have upgraded security systems, replaced intercoms and reader boards, improved fencing, and installed new water fill stations. Even parking lots and sidewalks have seen modifications.
Dr. Swinyard highlighted the district’s commitment to supporting students, saying, “It sends a message to our kids that we believe in them, that we care, that the spaces they come into, are ready for them to learn. And we have high expectations for them.”
All schools across the district, except for the two new middle schools opened last year, received upgrades. These improvements aim to create a conducive learning environment and foster student growth.
